Siddaganga Institute of Technology (SIT) is a technical institute in Tumkuru, Karnataka, India. It is run by Sri Siddaganga Educational Society. The institute was established in 1973, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with three courses.
It now offers undergraduate courses in 12 subjects. In addition, It executes undergraduate programs in 14 disciplines, including MBA and MCA courses. It has about 5,000 students with a teaching force of about 310. It became an autonomous institution under the Visvesvaraya University of Technology in 2010β08 with the last batch of VTUs in 2007β08.
History:
The Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur is an autonomous institution and is run by the Sri Siddaganga Educational Society. The institute has completed its glorious 53 years and is located in Tumkuru, Karnataka.
According to a survey conducted in 2018 by ‘The Week’ magazine, the institute was ranked 127th among the best institutions in the non-governmental B-school category across India. Another recent survey, the institute has been posted under the gold category by the AICTE-CII survey of the industry-linked institute.
In addition, the institute ranks 79th among the best engineering universities of NIRF 2019. More importantly, the institute is one of the few beneficiaries of the World Bank-assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Program, Phase I, Phase II and Center of Excellence.
The institute has signed a memorandum of understanding with several foreign universities for student exchange programs, for example University of Memphis (USA) and RMIT University Australia, Germany etc.
One of the unique features of SIT Tumkur is “ICL”, the industry competition laboratory which has signed MoUs with several renowned organizations to promote training and research. Some of the labs configured are for IBM Center of Excellence, Intel Intelligent System Labs, PICO Satellite etc.
SIT Tumkur offers various engineering and management courses at UG and PG level. Candidates can choose any course based on eligibility and university standards. Admission at UG and PG level will be on the basis of entrance test and PI. The institute is dedicated to providing high quality education by providing effective teaching and learning methods. In addition, the institute produces expert engineers and managers with high professional values ββand social responsibilities.
Admission process:
For undergraduate courses (B.Tech/ B.Arch):
For B.Tech, candidates should appear in Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) / Karnataka Dental, Engineering and Medical School Consortium (COMEDK) / Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main).
For B.Arch, candidates should sit for the National Architecture Aptitude Test (NATA).
Based on the marks of the entrance examination, candidates have to register and apply online for admission to the university.
Final admission will be followed by seat assignment, document verification and fee payment.
For postgraduate courses (M.Tech/MBA/MCA/M.Sc/PGD):
For M.Tech, candidates should appear for the Engineering Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) / Common Graduate Entrance Test (PGCET).
For MBA, candidates have to apply for MAT / CMAT / PGCET.
Based on the entrance exam scores, candidates should register and request the counseling process on the university website. Pre-selection of candidates will be done on the basis of their performance in the advisory process.
For MCA, admission will be on the basis of performance on the Postgraduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) / Karnataka Management Proficiency Test (KMR).
Final admission will be based on performance on entrance examination, seat assignment and fee payment.
Facilities:
SIT, Tumkur provides a various infrastructure and facilities to students and teachers for shelter, library, sports and games, medical facilities, transport facilities, auditorium, computer center, etc. Other facilities like banking, ATM, Wi-Fi are also available.
Computer Center:
SIT provides computer facilities so that students can have practical experience for better learning.
Library:
The Institute’s library has various technical books, national and international journals, CDs etc. For students and teachers.
Shelters:
SIT, Tumkur has separate shelters for boys and girls such as clutter, sports, rooms, medical aid etc. Are available for them.
