Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) was established in 1991. SLIET is located in Sangrur district of Punjab. SLIET is an autonomous body, fully funded by the government and controlled by SLIET. SLIET was declared a thoughtful university in 2007. SLIET is approved by AICTE. It has been recognized by the NAAC and NBA.

The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering, graduate programs in management and several doctorates. Program SLIET admissions are done every year through various exams like JEE (Mains), CCMN, SLIET SET, etc.

SLIET has made a distinction between professional institutes and universities in the country. The educational structure of SLIET is balanced by several co-curricular activities. History:

Founded in 1989 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and formally launched in December 1991, SLIET was established to provide education in the fields of engineering and technology.

It was named in memory of Harchand Singh Longowal, leader of the Sikh political party, in 1985 after signing a peace deal with the Punjab government. At the time of Longowal’s assassination, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi called it “a tragedy not only for Punjab but for the whole country. He worked bravely to remove hatred from the hearts of men and bring peace after so much struggle.

The institute started certificate and diploma programs in 1991, and degree programs in 1993. Undergraduate courses in four disciplines were started in 2003. All degree programs were accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education in 2003, and in 2004 an impact assessment and review by Educational Consultants India.

This institute was earlier affiliated to Punjab Technical University. However, he was later granted Deemed status for being a university during the year 2007-08.

Facilities:

SLIET provides many different facilities for students and faculty. There are shelter facilities for boys and girls. There is a sports ground where you can play cricket and football. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled. There is also a health center for attending medical emergencies. The library here has one of the best stocks in the area.

Hostels:

The college provides separate hostels for boys and girls for other facilities like kitchen, dining room, Wi-Fi, cable TV, etc.

Library:

SLIET Library contains various technical books, literature books, national and international journals, magazines etc. For students and teachers.

Computing Facility:

The University Computing Center is equipped with the latest hardware and software. To gain practical knowledge, students can use this facility.

Health Center:

Medical personnel and specialists are available at the health center to attend students for any injury or emergency.

Sports:

Various indoor and outdoor sports facilities such as cricket, basketball, starfruit, chess etc. Are available for students.

Activity Center:

This is an area where various events and activities are organized for students to improve their talent in various other fields. It has squash courts, gym, indoor games etc.

Highlights:

SLIET has been ranked 56th for Best Engineering College in India by the National Institutional Classification Framework published by MHRC in April 2016.

For the general development of the institute, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with renowned industries and institutes of higher education to gain experience available with them.

13 research projects have been sponsored. 2012 to 2017 and organizations like MHRD, AICTE, DST, CSIR, ICAR have funded various research projects in specialized areas of science and technology.

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology organizes conferences and seminars on June 3 and 7, 2019, such as “Progress in isolation processes and advance techniques”.

Industrial training of eight to twelve weeks is provided during the semester break before the beginning of the year to improve the employ-ability skills of the students.
