Genesis The First Book Of The Bible.
The word ‘Genesis’ is basically an English translation of the Hebrew word for the first book of Torah, Bereishith. The word Genesis means ‘in the beginning.’ Genesis is one of the first five books of the Written Torah as well as of Old Testament. It is believed to be written by Moses. There are various stories in the book of Genesis to summarize the details, so we will examine some key sections.
When Genesis was written, man had not been created at the dawning of time or that man could not have witnessed all that transpired?. Biblical scholars believe that Genesis was written by Moses, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, during the period of forty years that the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness (1450 – 1410 B.C.).
Hence Moses was chosen by Almighty God to deliver this children of Israel from Egyptian bondage. The details of Moses life are recorded in the Old Testament in the book of Exodus.
Chapter 1 of Genesis describes the creation of earth and the creatures of the earth . and Chapter 2 of Genesis describes the creation of man. Chapters 3 to 5 of Genesis describe the “fall” (or rebellion) of man after having been made in the image and likeness of God.
The result of this fall was all of mankind became sinful creatures. Chapters 6 to 8 of Genesis describe God’s judgment on mankind with a flood that destroyed every living creature except prophet Noah, His family, and all of the creatures that were with Noah aboard the ark.
Chapters 9 to 50 of Genesis tells detail God’s relationship with the patriarchs of the Christian faith: like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Through His relationships, God established a covenant with man which would be fulfilled through the Lord’s incarnation as Jesus Christ, over 2,000 years ago. Most of the scholars believe that Jesus was born around 6 or 5th B.C.
Overview of Genesis:
Genesis is the first book of Bible containing several stories of creation, The garden of Eden and original Sin. About Adam and Eve, cane and Abe, Noah’s Arch, slavery in Egypt. It was written by Moses. Through out the book God acknowledges the fact that human beings make mistakes, and accepts their imperfection.
The book Genesis is significant because in particular it traces the origin of all things and the origin of human race. It tells us the history of Jewish people, about imbalance and how sufferings began in the world.
